Patent Troll Report By GAO Gets Mixed Reviews

Law360, New York (August 22, 2013, 8:38 PM ET) -- The U.S. Government Accountability Office's recommendation Thursday that improving patent quality will rein in litigation by so-called patent trolls drew praise from some attorneys but dismayed others who had hoped the office would call for more sweeping reform.

The only recommendation in the GAO's report, which was mandated by the 2011 America Invents Act, was that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office pay attention to trends in patent litigation and use that information to better avoid issuing patents with overly broad claims, which the report said...
