US, Canadian Unions Push To Exclude Dairy From TPP Talks

Law360, New York (August 22, 2013, 5:34 PM ET) -- U.S. and Canadian union groups on Thursday called on negotiators of the Trans-Pacific Partnership to completely exclude dairy products from receiving tariff cuts in the final multilateral pact, arguing that dairy powerhouse New Zealand would flood markets with its exports.

Representatives for the National Farmers Union, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, National Farm Family Coalition and Teamsters Canada all issued statements calling for the exclusion of dairy just one day before negotiators are slated to begin in the next round of talks in Brunei.
