Abbott Can't Wipe Out $2.2M Verdict In Humira Case

Law360, Chicago (August 22, 2013, 7:51 PM EDT) -- Abbott Laboratories and AbbVie Inc. lost a bid Wednesday to squelch an Illinois jury's $2.2 million verdict in favor of a man whose wife allegedly suffered a life-threatening fungal infection as a result of taking the blockbuster arthritis drug Humira.

Judge William Haddad of the Cook County Circuit Court denied the drugmakers' motion to set aside the verdict for a new trial, rejecting their argument that the jury's answer to a special interrogatory contradicted the verdict.
