Smartcard Patent Holder Takes On Nokia, Time Warner

Law360, New York (December 5, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- A lone inventor from North Carolina has sued a slew of major companies in the communications and cable television industries, from Time Warner Cable Inc. and Directv Inc., to Research In Motion Corp. and Nokia Inc. The assemblage is accused of infringing a single patent for the automated billing and tracking of service usage.
Inventor Barry W. Thomas filed six complaints simultaneously, naming at least 16 defendants, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina in Charlotte. The group includes hardware makers...
