DOE Sinks $16M Into Hydrokinetic Projects

Law360, New York (August 30, 2013, 1:37 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Energy said Thursday that it's plowing $16 million into 17 projects to help harness energy from waves, tides and currents, saying that hydrokinetic development could supply clean energy to millions of American homes.

The DOE is providing $13.5 million to eight projects to help companies build wave and tidal devices that reduce overall production costs and maximize the amount of energy captured.
