New WTO Head Vows To Revive Negotiating Agenda

Law360, New York (September 9, 2013, 7:25 PM EDT) -- Setting multicountry trade negotiations back on course holds the key to revamping the World Trade Organization's relevance and counteracting trade protections that limit economic growth and cooperation, the WTO's new chief said Monday.

Delivering an inaugural speech to the WTO General Council, the organization's new director-general, Roberto Azevedo, vowed to “rebuild trust and faith” in the organization, in part by reinvigorating the WTO's negotiating arm and pushing for progress on multilateral trade deals, such as the long-stalled Doha Round.
