As Gaming Industry Grows, Patent Suits Abound

Law360, New York (December 7, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- Two companies that manufacture gaming machines will head to court to resolve a dispute over patents, adding another lawsuit to the growing number of court battles held over lucrative intellectual property rights in the gaming industry.

JCM American Corp. filed a suit against Mars Electronics International, alleging MEI infringed two of its patents for a bill validator with an integrated bar code detector. The patents cover gaming devices that have the ability to accept bar-coded tickets and gaming devices that stack currency.
