RIM And NTP Begin Fresh Settlement Talks

Law360, New York (December 8, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- Blackberry maker Research in Motion Ltd. and patent holding firm NTP Inc. have begun mediating toward a new settlement to prevent a shutdown of the popular wireless e-mail service in the United States.

Neither party provided comments on the mediation, other than to confirm talks had been initiated. Analysts predict a settlement could result in RIM forking out as much as $1 billion to NTP for a license.
