EU Antitrust Chief Is Close To Decision On Google Probe

Law360, New York (September 13, 2013, 7:49 PM ET) -- The European Union's antitrust chief said Friday that he would decide in the coming weeks whether to move forward with a settlement with Google Inc. or whether to launch a formal complaint over claims that the Internet giant manipulated search results.

Earlier in September, Google sent the European Commission a new set of proposed commitments designed to settle the three-year-old investigation. On Friday, Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said that whether the case could be settled remained an open question despite the long-running negotiations.
