FTC Orders Honeywell To License IP In $600M Intermec Deal

Law360, New York (September 13, 2013, 5:45 PM ET) -- The Federal Trade Commission decided Friday to order Honeywell International Inc. to license several barcode scanner patents in order to alleviate concerns that its $600 million deal for data management company Intermec Inc. would hamstring competition for the scanners.

Under the terms of the proposed settlement, Honeywell will have to license both its own two-dimensional barcode scan engine patents and Intermec's related patents to Datalogic IPTECH SRL for 12 years to ensure that the U.S. market for the product still has three competitors. Scan engines are...
