EEOC Scores Settlement For Fired Transgender Worker

Law360, New York (September 16, 2013, 5:07 PM ET) -- A South Dakota supermarket owner has agreed in a conciliation agreement with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to pay $50,000 to a former employee who was fired for being transgender, the agency said Monday.

After the worker filed a charge, an investigation by the EEOC's Minneapolis Area Office revealed that South Dakota super market chain Don's Valley Market terminated a well-performing employee after she informed her employer that she would be taking steps to transition from male to female at work.
