Proxy Firms On SEC Oversight: Don't Shoot The Messenger

Law360, New York (September 17, 2013, 5:58 PM ET) -- Proxy advisory firms on Tuesday punched back at critics who say the firms wield too much power and should be reined in by federal regulators, a major battle that has been boiling over during the proxy offseason.

Executives from Glass Lewis & Co. LLC, the No. 2 proxy firm by market share, and smaller peer Egan Jones told a New York conference room of lawyers, bankers and academics that efforts to bring them under the thumb of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission are misguided....
