HHS Unveils Model 'User-Friendly' HIPAA Privacy Notices

Law360, New York (September 17, 2013, 5:49 PM ET) -- Federal health regulators on Friday released three model notices that they encouraged health care providers and health plans to use to inform consumers about how their medical data will be used and made available under a revised privacy rule that takes effect next week.

Under the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act, covered entities are required to provide individuals with a clear and “user-friendly” notice about how they will use and share their data as well as how consumers can access their protected information.
