FDA Pitches Off-Label Rules Amid Criticism

Law360, New York (February 19, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is looking to clear the way for drug companies to provide doctors with information on off-label uses of prescription drugs, in a proposal that has incensed lawmakers and consumer advocates.

While drugmakers are prohibited from marketing drugs for unauthorized uses, doctors are able to prescribe medication for any condition.
