Jury Orders Becton To Pay $114M In Syringe Antitrust Case

Law360, New York (September 20, 2013, 2:53 PM EDT) -- A Texas federal jury on Thursday awarded Retractable Technologies Inc. $113.5 million in damages against longtime patent litigation rival Becton Dickinson & Co. after finding that the medical supply giant had attempted to monopolize the market for safety syringes.

After an eight-day trial, Retractable Technologies succeeded in convincing the jury that Becton Dickinson had attempted to monopolize the market for safety syringes and that the company had falsely advertised about how much waste space its products took up and how sharp its needles are.
