E.U. Drops Probe Of Telecom “Patent Ambush”

Law360, New York (December 12, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Commission has dropped its investigation into the European Telecommunications Standards Industry, after the group revised some of its intellectual property rules in hopes of preventing single companies from controlling the telecommunications market.

The group will now require that member companies alert the ETSI if they hold any patents upon which a standard depends.

EC regulators dropped their investigation after the ETSI said it had modified the rule.
