Ex-NJ Sheriff Gets 9 Years In Jobs-For-Cash Scheme

Law360, New York (September 20, 2013, 4:39 PM EDT) -- A one-time New Jersey county sheriff and Democratic party leader who pocketed about $112,000 in bribes from those seeking jobs or promotions in his law enforcement agency was sentenced to nine years in prison on Friday, authorities said.

The sentence that Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Anthony J. Mellaci Jr. handed down against former Middlesex County Sheriff Joseph C. Spicuzzo, 68, of Helmetta, also includes two years of parole ineligibility and a $55,000 fine, according to Acting Attorney General John Jay Hoffman.
