Argentina To Review $1B Telefonica Deal For Telecom Italia

Law360, New York (September 25, 2013, 4:28 PM EDT) -- Argentine antitrust regulators will review a proposed deal by Spain's Telefonica SA to gain control of Telecom Italia SpA — both of which have Argentine operations — through a series of deals worth roughly €748 million ($1 billion), Argentina's government said Tuesday.

This coincides with Telefonica's announcement of a group of cash-and-stock deals that could help it eventually take control of Telecom Italia. In the transactions, Telefonica will lift its stake in Telco SpA, the controlling shareholder in Telecom Italia with a 22.4 percent stake.
