Chilean High Court Slashes $10M Whirlpool Antitrust Fine

Law360, New York (September 25, 2013, 8:15 PM EDT) -- Chile's Supreme Court on Tuesday slashed Whirlpool SA's $10 million fine for its role in a refrigerator compressor cartel in half but otherwise upheld the first-ever leniency case decision from the country's antitrust watchdog.

The high court unanimously rejected Whirlpool's challenge to the jurisdiction of Chile's antitrust tribunal to hand out penalties for conduct that originated outside of the country but had an effect within its borders, Chile's National Economic Prosecutor said Tuesday.
