Visa, MasterCard Win Tentative Ruling In $13B Patent Row

Law360, Los Angeles (September 26, 2013, 10:30 PM ET) -- Visa Inc. and Mastercard International Inc. won a tentative ruling in a $13 billion patent dispute Wednesday when a California federal judge found the two hadn’t infringed on SmartMetric Inc.’s network technology.

In a verbal tentative ruling in Los Angeles on Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald said the two payment processing giants hadn’t infringed on SmartMetric’s work with their automatic-pay features on credit cards.
