High Court To Weigh Union Fees For Ill. Home-Care Workers

Law360, New York (October 1, 2013, 4:11 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear a putative class action challenging an Illinois regulatory scheme that requires home-care providers for Medicaid recipients in the state to pay fees to a union for representing their interests before state agencies.

The home-care providers have asked the justices to overturn a Seventh Circuit decision nixing their allegations that the Illinois regulations classifying them as public employees who can be required to pay union fees violate their First Amendment rights.
