Sony, Command Audio Settle 3 Year PVR Patent Battle

Law360, New York (December 15, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- Electronics makers Sony Electronics and Command Audio Corp. have reached a settlement in their three-year battle over the patents for DVR technology, with Sony agreeing to pay royalties for use of Command Audio’s personal video recorder patents.

The licensing agreement will remain in place until Command Audio’s PVR patents have expired.

Command Audio has previously licensed patents to companies like Motorola and XM Satellite Radio, although this is the first time the company has reached an agreement over the lucrative PVR patents.
