Honey Processor Files Ch. 11 Amid Smuggling Allegations

Law360, New York (October 03, 2013, 4:00 PM ET) -- Groeb Farms Inc. filed for bankruptcy protection in a Michigan court Tuesday in the aftermath of allegations the major U.S. honey packing and processing company smuggled Chinese honey into the country to avoid anti-dumping duties.

In its initial Chapter 11 filing, the company estimated its assets and their liabilities both range from $50 million to $100 million, adding that fines, settlements and other costs related to the alleged illegal import scheme caused “significant unanticipated expenses."
