Nestle Wins UK Ruling On Cadbury's Purple Trademark

Law360, New York (October 04, 2013, 1:40 PM ET) -- A UK appeals court sided with Nestle SA on Friday and ruled that Mondelez International Inc.'s Cadbury unit didn't deserve legal trademark protection for the purple color it uses for its milk chocolate packaging.

The U.K. Court of Appeal overturned an October 2012 ruling by a lower judge that said the country's trademark office should give Cadbury exclusive control over the particular shade of purple — Pantone 2685C — that it uses on its “Dairy Milk” chocolate bars and other products.
