Citing Shutdown, DC To Put A Hold On Medicaid Payments

Law360, New York (October 4, 2013, 7:04 PM ET) -- Due to the ongoing government shutdown, Washington will be unable to pay the managed care organizations and fee-for-service health care providers that serve its Medicaid recipients, city health care finance officials said Thursday.

Washington's Department of Health Care Finance said that the failure of U.S. lawmakers to pass a budget for fiscal year 2014 has left them without the authority to pay out the $89.2 million it had appropriated this week for providers that serve residents enrolled in Medicaid or the locally funded D.C.
