Justices Want SG's Take On Applying US Patent Law Abroad

Law360, New York (October 7, 2013, 4:29 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday asked the federal government to weigh in on a case in which A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S claims that the Federal Circuit unlawfully applied U.S. patent law to conduct overseas when it found that Maersk infringed Transocean Ltd.'s offshore drilling patents.

The high court invited U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli to file a brief in the case, which Maersk asked the justices to hear in July, seeking to overturn a verdict that it must pay Transocean $15 million in damages.
