Eminent Domain Threat Lodged For Va. Waterfront Project

Law360, New York (October 8, 2013, 1:39 PM EDT) -- In the face of recently strengthened property rights laws, Alexandria, Va., officials announced Tuesday they are considering using eminent domain to take over the last holdout blocking a massive waterfront project that calls for hotels, restaurants, residences, theaters and more.

The Alexandria City Council will hold a special meeting next month to debate its options, which now include using eminent domain to put an end to long-running negotiations with the owners of the Old Dominion Boat Club, according to a statement.
