SEC Mulling Disclosure Rule Updates

Law360, Washington (October 15, 2013, 12:01 PM ET) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is constantly reviewing its corporate disclosure requirements to prevent "information overload" for investors, and it's considering revamping its industry-specific disclosure guidance, agency head Mary Jo White said Tuesday.

As some industries are still using SEC disclosure guidance from the 1970s, the regulator is looking at different methods to update those documents, ranging from new guidance to official rulemakings, White said at the National Association of Corporate Directors Leadership Conference.
