HCA Says Whistleblower's Medicare FCA Claims Don't Stick

Law360, New York (October 15, 2013, 6:27 PM ET) -- Hospital Corp. of America Inc. asked a Florida federal court Monday to toss a whistleblower suit accusing it of improper Medicare and Medicaid billing, saying the suit fails to allege the actual submission of a false claim to the government.

Relator Brenda Farnsworth alleges that HCA, Parallon Business Solutions LLC and Galencare Inc., which does business as Northside Hospital, falsified records to dupe Medicare and Medicaid into covering unsafe — sometimes fatal — procedures that were ineligible for reimbursement because they violated federal rules.
