Lifeway Accused Of Masking Smoothies' Sugar Content

Law360, New York (October 18, 2013, 5:35 PM ET) -- Lifeway Foods Inc. was hit with a putative class action Wednesday in California federal court alleging consumers were duped into purchasing its products, including its line of kefir smoothies, because they were labeled as containing evaporated cane juice instead of sugar.

Plaintiff Robert E. Figy filed the lawsuit alleging Lifeway violated California’s Unfair Competition Law by misbranding its products as containing evaporated cane juice or organic cane juice when the products actually contain sugar or dried cane syrup.
