Patent Suit Takes Aim At AmEx's ExpressPay

Law360, New York (February 25, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- American Express Co. is infringing a patent involving technology that uses a microchip and a unique code to cut down on payment card fraud and works within the existing magnetic stripe reader system, says a complaint filed by PrivaSys Inc.

Newbury Park, Calif.-based PrivaSys filed suit Friday against American Express Co. and American Express Travel Related Services Co. Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, seeking a permanent injunction and treble damages.
