Pa. ShopRite Owes 15 Years Of NJ Taxes

Law360, New York (October 29, 2013, 8:06 PM EDT) -- The New Jersey Tax Court on Tuesday hit the Pennsylvania subsidiary of a company that operates grocery stores under the ShopRite name with 15 years worth of tax liability, saying the subsidiary was set up with the sole purpose of avoiding New Jersey tax.

The court found that intertwined lending practices and common executive ownership of New Jersey-based Village Super Market Inc. and its Pennsylvania subsidiary created nexus in New Jersey, triggering liability for corporate business tax.
