'Troll' Suits May Be Hurting Startup Investment, Study Says

Law360, New York (October 30, 2013, 7:13 PM ET) -- Venture capital firms that invest in startup companies are increasingly concerned that litigation by so-called patent trolls is having negative impact on startups and can discourage funding, according to a study released Tuesday.

The study, by Robin Feldman, a professor at the University of California Hastings College of the Law, surveyed members of the National Venture Capital Association and their portfolio companies about their view about companies that have a core business of licensing or litigating patents, which she referred to as patent assertion entities....
