AmeriDebt Trial Postponed After CEO's Wife Settles

Law360, New York (January 2, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a victory for the government’s crackdown against the debt counseling industry, the wife of AmeriDebt Inc.’s former chief executive officer has agreed to testify against her embattled husband in a lawsuit filed by customers and the Federal Trade Commission.

The government agency sued now-defunct debt counseling firm AmeriDebt in November 2003. It accused founder Andris Pukke of milking his debt-ridden customers of more than $80 million to fund a lavish lifestyle. Pukke’s related company, DebtWorks Inc., was also named in the suit.
