EPA Raises Fines For Air, Water Pollution Violations

Law360, New York (November 5, 2013, 2:17 PM EST) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is raising maximum penalties for several air and water pollution statutes effective next month, saying Tuesday that the hikes are necessary to keep up with the rate of inflation.

Twenty of the 88 EPA statutory civil penalty provisions are being bumped up under the final rule, with maximum fines going up by as much as $50,000 for sections of the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act and other laws.
