CMS Delays Audits Of 2-Midnights Admission Policy

Law360, New York (November 5, 2013, 6:51 PM EST) -- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on Friday offered fresh details on how it will apply a controversial new policy requiring inpatient admissions to span at least two midnights and handed hospitals a victory by promising to further delay after-the-fact audits of such billing.

In a question-and-answer document, CMS pushed back to April 1 from Jan. 1 its use of so-called recovery audit contractors to scrutinize billing, doubling the length of a grace period for admissions criteria that took effect Oct. 1.
