Copyright Suit Against Paramount Too Late, 9th Circ. Says

Law360, New York (November 6, 2013, 5:34 PM ET) -- The Ninth Circuit ruled Wednesday that Seven Arts Film Entertainment Ltd. couldn't sue Paramount Pictures Corp. over three movies it claimed to own, affirming a lower court's decision that the copyright infringement allegations were time-barred.

The published opinion turned on the fact that the three-year statute of limitations for normal infringement claims resets with each new violation, but the same limit for ownership disputes runs just one time — from the moment one party repudiates the other's control of the work.
