Vytorin Class Actions Now Total 85: Merck

Law360, New York (February 29, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- Merck & Co. Inc. has revealed that about 85 civil lawsuits have been filed against the company and its marketing partner Schering-Plough Corp. since mid-January, claiming the drugmakers broke state consumer protection laws through the sale and marketing of cholesterol-lowering drugs Vytorin and Zetia.

The revelation was made in Merck’s annual report, filed Thursday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Before this announcement, the most recent tally had put the total number of proposed class actions filed against the drugmakers at just under 50....
