Plaintiffs Signing On To $5B Vioxx Deal: Merck

Law360, New York (March 3, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Merck & Co. said Monday that it is confident its $4.85 billion settlement over Vioxx will proceed, now that the overwhelming majority of plaintiffs who claimed they were injured by the blockbuster drug have signed on to the deal.

The New Jersey-based company said that 93%, or more than 44,000 of the approximately 47,000 people who allege the drug caused their heart attacks or strokes, have submitted claims in the company's settlement offer.
