Senate GOP Blocks Another DC Circ. Nominee

Law360, Washington (November 12, 2013, 8:38 PM EST) -- Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked a vote on the confirmation of Georgetown Law professor Cornelia T.L. Pillard for the D.C. Circuit amid concerns over an alleged Democratic attempt to “stack” the influential court, marking the second such nomination to be blocked in as many weeks.

The Senate voted 56-41 in favor of cloture on Pillard’s nomination, falling four votes short of the necessary 60 to proceed to an up-or-down vote on her confirmation. Sens. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and Susan Collins, R-Maine, were the only GOP senators...
