Publishers Call Google's EU Antitrust Offer 'An Absurdity'

Law360, New York (November 13, 2013, 5:43 PM ET) -- A proposal from Google Inc. to include links to rival vertical search sites on certain search pages aimed at extinguishing a European Commission antitrust probe drew strong criticism Wednesday from a band of European publishing companies, who say the proposed revisions could actually bolster Google's dominance.

The publishers charged that Google's proposal submitted to the EC last month would result in rival sites having to bid for optimum placement on Google's shopping, travel and other specialized search results pages, which would create a new revenue stream...
