AFL-CIO Criticizes US Investment Talks With China

Law360, New York (November 14, 2013, 4:05 PM EST) -- The AFL-CIO said Tuesday that the U.S. should not pursue a potential investment pact with China because of China's poor track record on labor rights and a dispute settlement system that may allow state-owned Chinese companies to challenge U.S. laws.

In a statement posted on the union's website, Celeste Drake, a trade and globalization policy specialist at the AFL-CIO, criticized a possible bilateral investment treaty between the U.S. and China, saying it posed a threat to the rights of workers in both countries.
