Ill. Towns Distorting Law In Tax Row, Travel Sites Say

Law360, New York (November 18, 2013, 4:22 PM ET) -- Expedia Inc. and other online travel companies told an Illinois federal court Friday that a class action launched by Illinois towns over the sites' hotel tax calculations fails because the towns' claims are limited to statutory remedies and the towns' arguments to the contrary misstate the law.
In the suit, which was removed to federal court in August, the towns allege that the travel companies bundle their costs to mask that they charge customers more than the amount for which they pay hotel taxes. The travel companies responded...
