FDA Asks Texas Compounder To Halt Sterile Drug Production

Law360, New York (November 18, 2013, 3:38 PM EST) -- The Texas compounding pharmacy that recalled its unexpired sterile medications should stop producing sterile drugs at least temporarily, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Friday, stating it found contaminants in the pharmacy’s recalled products.

Specialty Compounding LLC should not carry out sterile drug production “at this time,” the agency said in a statement Friday, saying that its inspections of samples from the pharmacy from August 13 to September 13, 2013, found contaminants including the bacteria Streptococcus thoraltensis and Streptococcus pluranimalium.
