FCPA Is 'Fertile Ground' For Whistleblowers: SEC Official

Law360, Washington (November 20, 2013, 1:02 PM EST) -- A U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission official said Wednesday that he expects Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations to be “increasingly fertile ground” for the agency's Dodd-Frank Act whistleblowing program and warned companies that self-reporting potential misdeeds is more important than ever.

In the last fiscal year, the SEC has received 149 FCPA violation tips from whistleblowers, according to Andrew Ceresney, co-director of the agency's enforcement division, and he expects more enforcement cases to spring out of that growing program.
