EU Inspects Voting Process On Microsoft Standard

Law360, New York (March 5, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Commission is reportedly taking a closer look at the standardization process that could elevate Microsoft Corp.’s document format into a worldwide standard for the technology industry and significantly boost business for the software conglomerate.

The Financial Times reported Tuesday that Europe’s competition watchdog has sent an inquiry to the International Organization for Standardization on how it prepared for votes in September 2007 and this month that could clear the way for Microsoft’s OOXML document format to become an international standard.
