LA Firefighter Wins $1M Jury Verdict In Race Bias Case

Law360, San Diego (November 26, 2013, 10:10 PM ET) -- A California state court jury on Monday awarded a $1.1 million verdict to a black firefighter who alleged the city of Los Angeles had discriminated against him based on his race.

The jury handed down the verdict after 16 days of deliberations and a seven-week trial in firefighter Jabari Jumaane’s case accusing the Los Angeles Fire Department of engaging in discrimination and retaliation and creating a hostile environment when he worked as a fire inspector.
