Canada Bolsters Sanctions Against North Korea Under UN Pact

Law360, New York (December 5, 2013, 11:59 AM EST) -- The government of Canada announced Wednesday that it will tighten financial sanctions on North Korean trade and banking activity, following through on a resolution it helped to pass through the United Nations earlier this year.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said that the expanded sanctions are meant to curb financial transactions that could be used to fund North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile regimes. Canada was a co-sponsor of the U.N. resolution allowing for the expanded sanctions passed in March.
