Pa. Senate Confirms Controversial DEP Pick Abruzzo

Law360, New York (December 10, 2013, 9:26 PM ET) -- The Pennsylvania Senate voted 42-8 Tuesday afternoon to approve Gov. Tom Corbett’s nomination of Chris Abruzzo to head the state’s Department of Environmental Protection, a week after he made headlines for questioning whether climate change presented a threat.

Before Tuesday’s vote, Abruzzo — a former prosecutor with the state’s Office of Attorney General who last worked as a deputy for the governor — faced pushback once again from Democratic senators, including Sen. Jim Ferlo, D-Allegheny, who voiced opposition to his stance on climate change.
