Lawmakers Grill IRS Pick Over Nonpartisan Tax Collection

Law360, New York (December 11, 2013, 1:24 PM ET) -- Renewing the public's confidence that taxes are collected without political motive remained the main theme on the second day of John Koskinen's confirmation hearing to run the Internal Revenue Service.

Wednesday's conclusion of the hearing saw Koskinen leave the door open for private tax collection. The former Freddie Mac executive said he cannot comment thoroughly on the idea until he is confirmed, but he said that making private collection fair to taxpayers is “not an insurmountable obstacle.”
